Hidden is a modifying condition to a role that conceals the role's nature and/or properties – quite simply, the recipient of a Hidden role does not know that they have it, or, less commonly, is not told all the relevant information about their role.

This is in fact the default state of certain roles, such as Miller, Herring, and the random variant of the Oracle; when, exceptionally, they are notified of their status, they are said to be Aware.
